The grid setup of font characters in BirdFont is a great way to either edit existing fonts or to create completely new fonts; these can be saved in a variety of formats including as SVG fonts, TrueType (TTF) or EOT. The fonts created can be used in virtually any type of application including custom fonts for web sites. When you first download Birdfont you need to figure if you want to produce an Open Font or commercial fonts which you can put on the market. The difference is a measly $5/year subscription. For a $10 donation, you can move up to a Birdfont with support for coloured and OTF fonts. Birdfont for Windows is a free font editor that lets you create vector graphics and export TTF, EOT, and SVG fonts. This is a free app, the developer page are encouraged and allow you to download the commercial version of the app, which allows you to create proprietary fonts. FontForge, Glyphs, and BirdFont are probably your best bets out of the 7 options considered. 'All platforms' is the primary reason people pick FontForge over the competition. This page is powered by a knowledgeable community that helps you make an informed decision.
